THE LAKE PARK

The territory of the Lake Park alternates between the soft, rolling hills and rocky cliffs of the Appennine Mountains between the regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna.

In the area, there are vast forests of birch and chestnut trees which made an important contribution to the sustinence of the inhabitants of this region for many centuries.

When hiking along the ridge trails in a totally "natural" enviornment, you may be surprised to come upon the ruins of an ancient farmhouse or a tiny village that is still inhabited. There are several interesting, historic ones inside the park: Chiapporato, Foragatti, Stagno and Caprevecchie.

At night, you might hear a "screech" that tears the night. Don't be afraid, it is the call of a buck deer. During the rutting season, from about September to late October, you can hear the calls of this animal deep in the forest where one of the largest herds in the Appennines can be found.

There are also great numbers of wild boars, mountain antelope, mountain goats and other small mammals.

And then there is water - and lots of it! Crystal-clear, clean water that flows from mountain streams into the Lakes of BRASIMONE and SUVIANA.

But, instead of only reading about the Park's beauty and adventure, come see for yourselves!
